Close friend and Westfield‘s fashion stylist Josie McManus has made her dreams come true. We take a look at the lady who runs our fashion workshops and the exciting adventure that is her first look book for Josie Stardust.
Josie Stardust is a vintage-lover’s dream closet (or simply an online vintage wear store) curated by the fabulous McManus. She has been collecting one-of-a-kind vintage pieces from around the world for over ten years, each piece hand-picked for its personality, quality and beauty.
The collection boasts pieces from the 1920’s to 1990’s to suit every budget, mood and fancy. McManus draws inspiration from the eclectic style of her friends, style icons past and present and everything in between. Regularly hitting the open road to hunt down treasures, there is always something new to find on Josie Stardust.
What was the inspiration for the first look book shoot?
The ‘Lone Star’ collection is Texas meets Tinseltown. I have a secret love affair with the US of A (most of the pieces at Josie Stardust are sourced [from] there), and on my recent hunting trip I found some great pieces that started to form this great Western story, with a heavy injection of sequins and glamour (no Josie Stardust endeavor is complete without sequins!). Shooting the look book on a NSW farm added an Australian rawness to the story that really rounded it off beautifully.
What were some of the highlights of the day?
Being the first editorial for a project that has been a long time in the dreaming made this shoot incredibly special and exciting for me. Seeing my vision come together and working with such an amazing and supportive team just made the whole shoot a massive highlight of the year. The masked horses made for a good giggle too!
What’s up next for us from Josie Stardust?
This is only the beginning; I have big plans for Josie Stardust! There is a truck load more of amazing vintage coming into the store over the next few weeks, then I will be off to the US again to hunt down more treasures for you vintage loving stars! Watch with glittering eyes…. x
